Coast Guard Ends Search for Boat Carrying 20 People

The U.S. Coast Guard declared Friday it has suspended its search for a missing vessel carrying around 20 people traveling from the Bahamas to south Florida.

The blue and white 29-foot Mako Cuddy Cabin vessel withdrew Bimini, Bahamas, Monday, but failed to arrive its destination in Lake Worth, Florida, the Coast Guard said in a statement.

Authorities received information about the boat’s disappearance on Tuesday, prompting an extensive search from the Coast Guard, the Royal Bahamas Defense Force and the Bahamas Air Sea Rescue Association.

The 84-hour search covered around 17,000 square miles between the Bahamas and Florida, the agency said.

The Coast Guard has not identified any of the passengers.
