Beverly Hills’ most famous street, Rodeo Drive, will be shut to people in general on Election Day and the following day, the city’s police chief said.
Police Chief Dominick Rivetti said his department will be on “full alert” beginning on Halloween and through election week in the event of potential protests.
“As Election Day approaches and with the capability of increased demonstration and protest action over the district, the city is adopting a proactive strategy to ensure a safe community for residents, businesses and visitors,” Rivetti said in a video presented on Twitter on Monday.
Rivetti added that despite the fact that a few businesses may decide to close, his officers will be securing the residential and business districts.
The city, which is home to luxury retail stores such as Gucci, Louis Vuitton and Chanel, has encouraged businesses to board up their windows.
In June, many businesses in Beverly Hills were looted after hundreds of protestors took to the streets in the wake of George Floyd’s death.
