A Czech woman have given birth to country’s first Quintuplets, i.e. five children born in a single pregnancy. Yes, it is a fact.
Alexandra Kinova is the 23 year old Czech woman who gave birth to four boys and a girl by Caesarean section on Sunday 2 June 2013. Kinova initially thought she was pregnant with twins, but in March the doctors said it was four – and then in April it upped to five.
“When we finally found a fifth head, I started to cry,” she said. The 23-year-old lady had an option to terminate this, but the brave-hearted lady decided to continue.
The quintuplets were delivered by Caesarean section in 31 weeks of pregnancy, at Prague’s Institute for the Care of Mother and Child, and the doctors said the births took place without any complications. However, the mother and babies were both placed in an intensive care unit for nourishment.
The boys’ names are likely to be Daniel, Michael, Alex and Martin, while the girl is called Terezka. The father of quintuplets, Antonin Kroscen said his babies are beautiful and looked quite alike.
The babies are Czech Republic’s first quintuplets, who were conceived naturally without IVF (In vitro fertilization), and the chances of having such a pregnancy are 48 million to one.
“In our country (birth) statistics have been recorded since 1949 and there’s no mention of quintuplets. In the Czech, Republic quintuplets are born on average once every 480 years,” obstetrician Alena Mechurova said.
