Impressive African Mango Benefits

African Mango Benefits

African mango is not the most widely available fruit, but it is packed with nutrients and unique health benefits that make it quite popular in certain parts of the world.

What is African Mango?

Scientifically known as Irvingia gabonensis, the African mango tree bears these fruits of the same name. Native to the Western-central region of Africa, these fruits are commonly known as wild mango, bush mango or ogbono. The trees can grow quite tall, up to 40 meters, and bear these round, green fruits that have bright-orange fruit inside, as well as a single, woody stone. While the pulp is the most popular part of this fruit that is consumed, the seeds are actually more highly valued. Packed with healthy fats and other active compounds, the oil from the seeds can be pressed out and extracted, or the seed themselves can be ground down, roasted or eaten raw.

The best benefits of eating African mango include regulating diabetes, increasing circulation, and boosting overall cardiovascular health, among others.

Protects Heart Health

The active ingredients in the extract of this fruit’s seed are able to reduce cholesterol levels and stimulate the metabolism, both of which can lead to lower blood pressure and a reduced risk of coronary heart diseases.

Boosts Circulation

With a decent amount of iron in this fruit, having some of this sweet treat is excellent for providing a boost to circulation, which delivers resources and oxygen wherever the body needs it most.

Controls Diabetes

It has been found that people who regularly eat the seeds raw, or have the extract on a regular basis, are better able to control their blood sugar, preventing the dangerous spikes and drops that diabetics must avoid.

Prevents Cancer

One of the other active ingredients in this fruit, ellagic acid, has been linked to antioxidant and anti-cancer activities in the body.

African Mango for Weight Loss

One of the reasons why this exotic fruit has received so much attention in recent years is because of its apparent effects on weight loss. The flesh of the fruit is not used for these purposes, but a number of studies have been done on the extract from the nut of the African mango. Research has found that not only can the active ingredients help to reduce overall cholesterol levels, but they can also stimulate the metabolism and significantly increase passive fat-burning. When this extract is used regularly, it has been known to cause weight loss. It is also known to suppress the appetite, which is another way to prevent overeating and create a calorie deficit.
